Through the years I have taken on many bespoke commissions and to give you an insight into the diverse and varied job styles undertaken please take a look below and get in touch if you would like to discuss something particular.
Model Farm for National Centre for Children’s Books
A commission I undertook for the ‘National Centre for Children’s Books’, also known as ‘Seven Stories’. They are located in Newcastle upon Tyne and if you are ever in that area please make time to visit this wonderful place. (if you would like more information on them, visit there website, www.sevenstories.org.uk a must for everyone from 1 to 110 years of age).
1/24 Scale Georgian House Model
The gentleman who commissioned me to build this 24th scale model of his Georgian Style House in Devises, Wiltshire was a retired doctor and he wanted it made for his wife’s 70th Birthday. He discovered my business whilst on holiday in Cumbria and took away one of my leaflets.
Heber House Farm
This commission job I am going to show you is of another house and farm buildings. ‘Heber House Farm’ is located at Leck on the border between North Yorkshire and Cumbria, on Lord Shuttleworth’s estate. The lady commissioned me to make a model of their farm for her son. She wanted it detailed enough for her son to know it was the
Sanders Farm House
Another commission for a farm is this model of the 17th century ‘Sanders Farm House’, in the village of Borwick, Near Carnforth, Lancashire. This was going to be a present for the Grandson of the lady who lived on the farm. The farm was no longer used as a working farm, but all of the buildings were still intact and well maintained. The farm house is a listed building with very distinct Vernacular Architecture. Once again it is
Wraysholme Tower Model Farm
The next project was even more difficult and involved reproducing a 15th century three storey pele tower house, together with a model of the whole farm. ‘Wraysholme Tower Farm’ is located at Allithwaite, between Grange-over-Sands and Flookborough in Cumbria, on the road that leads to ‘Humphrey Head’, (allegedly the site of the killing of
Little Red Tractor
Not every commission that comes in is for a farm or house, some are for promotional artifacts as in this next job. Early in 2000 I was approached by the National Farmers Union about making a Sit-N-Ride toy based on the new logo for the ‘British Farm Standard’ mark to be displayed on food packaging. The reason they wanted this to be
Woodpecker Promotional Items
Another example of promotional work was for a publicity company in Leeds who were doing an advertising campaign for a large company. They wanted 3000 little men on springs that would wobble down a pole, (like the woodpecker toys that peck their way from the top of a metal pole to the bottom). Having submitted the design and costing’s
Department Store Dolls House
This commission was for our local Vicar’s wife. She had this idea of building a five story Department Store based on the period from the early 1920’s. She had pictured this store in her mind and then seen some windows that she wanted to incorporate into the design, along with a revolving entrance door to the foyer area. Using the brief she
Thomas The Tank Engine Toy Engine Shed
The commission job below was a Christmas present for a little boy who had a collection of ‘Ertle’ die-cast engines from the ‘Thomas The Tank Engine’ stories. I think he had every design that they had ever made and had asked his parents for an engine shed to play with and keep them in. Some times at Christmas, I used to take on so
